4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Los Angeles

Residents Felt Shaking from the Quake

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake shook the Los Angeles area on Monday afternoon, causing widespread shaking but no major damage or injuries.

The quake was centered in El Sereno, a neighborhood in East Los Angeles, and occurred at 3:50 p.m. PT. It was followed two minutes later by a 2.1-magnitude aftershock.

The earthquake was felt across the Los Angeles Basin, including in downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Long Beach. Residents reported feeling shaking and swaying in their homes and businesses.

There have been no reports of any injuries or significant damage from the earthquake. However, some buildings in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

The Los Angeles Fire Department is currently conducting inspections of buildings in the affected area to ensure their safety.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) is monitoring the situation and has issued a yellow alert for the area, indicating a low probability of further significant earthquakes.

Residents are advised to be prepared for aftershocks and to follow the instructions of local authorities.
